          Port a Bach is a unique prototype that exemplifies sustainable architecture by upcycling shipping containers. Designed by Atelierworkshop, the prototype was built in Hangzhou, China, and shipped to New Zealand. Now, it forms part of the permanent collection at the Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth. Although not mass-produced, Atelierworkshop creates bespoke designs for clients who wish to commission a transportable container home. The idea for Port a Bach emerged in 2001 when the architects sought to create a permanent, yet mobile holiday home. They envisioned a structure that would be sturdier than a caravan, while still being easily transportable.
